Irina R. Kushner is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Washington, D.C. office. She is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, where her practice focuses on trademarks, IP portfolio management and patent litigation. Rina also assists with trademark and copyright prosecution and litigation.
Rina has experience practicing before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, the U.S. International Trade Commission, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and in the U.S. District Courts. Rina has litigated matters involving various technologies including medical devices, pharmaceuticals and ink jet cartridges. Rina was also involved in the spinoff of a company into three independent, publicly traded companies. As part of the multi-disciplinary team, Rina advised on intellectual property issues and assisted in the rebranding initiative undertaken by one of the three independent companies.
In 2003, Rina was a summer associate with McDermott. Prior to joining the Firm, Rina held several positions in the legal environment, including as a law clerk for the United States Attorney's Office in Washington, D.C. and as an assistant legal personnel recruiting manager of a law firm.
While at the University of Virginia School of Law, Rina externed with JustChildren, a program through the Charlottesville Legal Aid Justice Center that provides legal representation to children and young people to ensure they have access to educational and mental health services.
Rina is a frequent contributor to IP Update, a monthly publication discussing the latest cases and trends involving intellectual property. Rina is also the author of an article entitled "Megan's Law: Branding Juveniles as Sex Offenders," which was published in Developments of Mental Health Law (January 2004).
Rina is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Virginia.
