Ian Rose is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery UK LLP, based in its London office. He is a member of the European Competition Group, where his practice focuses on cartel and abuse of dominance investigations before the European Commission and the UK competition regulators, EC, UK and multi-jurisdictional merger control, distribution, licensing and research and development agreements, the EC State aid and public procurement rules, and UK and EC environmental law and policy.
Ian's practice covers a range of sectors, including telecommunications, defense, energy, transport and sports, and he has been involved in a number of the major European merger and cartel cases of recent years.
Ian is recognized as a "leader in his field" by Chambers ("particular strength in telecoms and defence")and he is named as a leader in his fields by Euromoney Legal Media Group's Expert Guides 2005. He is an active writer and speaker on competition matters, including providing regular comment and analysis for the Gazette section of Jordans' quarterly Competition Law Journal, of which he is a member of the Advisory Board.
Ian is a regular speaker at conferences and for the European Commission, he has provided training on EC merger control to competition officials of the new EU Member States and seminars on EC competition law to officials of the Russian Anti-Monopoly Committee.
Ian is past Chairman of the Law Society's European Group, incoming Chairman of the Environment, Health and Safety Law Committee of the International Bar Association's Legal Practice Division, a member of the Commission on Competition and the Task Forces on the International Competition Network and the EU Merger Regulation Review in the International Chamber of Commerce, and a Freeman of the City of London.
