Mr. Burns has been engaged in the solid waste industry since 1986. During his career in the industry, Mr. Burns has served as Director of Landfill Operations, Regional Engineer and District Manager. He has successfully permitted five landfills. The landfills and transfer stations that Mr. Burns has managed have consistently out-performed others in terms of profitability, environmental compliance and safety. Achieving this balance has served the facilities, the environment, and the host communities very well. In 1999, Mr. Burns was the recipient of the National Solid Waste Management Association Member of the Year Award. Mr. Burns currently serves as the only industry representative, appointed by the Governor, on the Virginia Solid Waste Management Board. He also serves on the board of the Virginia Air and Space Center. Mr. Burns received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mining Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1981. |
