Howard M. Dean was elected to Ball Corporation's board of directors in October 1984. He is chairman of Dean Foods Company, Dallas.
Mr. Dean joined Dean Foods Company in 1965 as the internal auditor, following service in the United States Navy as a lieutenant junior grade officer aboard a destroyer. He was elected president in 1970, a member of the company's board of directors in 1971, chief executive officer in 1987 and chairman of the board in January 1989. He served as chairman and chief executive officer from 1989 to 2001.
He has held leadership positions in a number of food industry associations, including the Milk Industry Foundation and the International Association of Ice Cream Manufacturers. His community activities have included serving as chairman and director of The Community House of Hinsdale, Ill., and as a trustee of the King-Bruwaert Retirement Home, also in that city.
In addition to his directorships at Ball Corporation and Dean Foods Company, Mr. Dean is a director of Yellow Corporation, Inc.
Mr. Dean was born in Hinsdale, Ill. He graduated from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, in 1960 and received a master of business administration degree from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., in 1961.
