As Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Howard oversees Duke’s legal and risk management departments. He joined the Company in 1999, and served on the Board of Directors from 1988 to 2003.
Before joining Duke, Howard was president of Choir Capital Ltd., a New York-based investment-banking firm he co-founded in 1996. Choir advises parties to capital markets asset-based transactions primarily involving transportation equipment and facilities, and arranges specialized financing and credit enhancement of asset-based borrowers by Choir's insurance company clientele.
From 1995 to 1996, Howard was a Managing Director of Citicorp North America Inc., responsible for Citicorp’s worldwide aviation activities. From 1989 to 1995, he was a Senior Manager, last serving as Senior Vice President and Manager - Capital Markets, Pricing and Investor Programs, of GE Capital Aviation Services Inc. and its corporate predecessors. From 1971 to 1989, he practiced law in New York City, advising institutional and entrepreneurial clients regarding tax, corporate finance, direct investment and commercial matters.
He is a Director of The Alliance Theatre at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia, the predominant regional theatre for the southeastern United States. Howard is also a Director of the Center for Jewish Educational Experiences, also based in Atlanta.
Howard is a native of New York City. He attended public schools, including the Bronx High School of Science; received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Temple University in 1968; and a Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University School of Law in 1971, where he was an Editor of the Law Review. |
