As visiting faculty at Johns Hopkins University Medical Center, Dr Zhang lectured at the Center for Biomarker Discovery on Bioinformatics on Peak detection methods for mass spectral data. Currently a Yamacraw Associate Professor at Armstrong Atlantic University, Dr. Zhang was the Vice President and CIO for a neural network and computer assisted medical diagnostic systems company that employs neural network and mathematical/statistical preprocessing techniques. Dr Zhang was a professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Purdue University from 1989 to 1996. He has held numerous academic positions, including Adjunct Associate Professor, Associate Professor with Tenure, and Assistant Professor. He was a visiting Associate Professor in 1995 in the Department of Biometry at the Medical University of South Carolina. Throughout his academic career, Dr. Zhang has consulted on many software and analytical development projects for Union Switch and Signal, Inc., General Electric Company, and the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Zhang has published numerous articles on the use of neural networks in the detection of cancers. He has been published in more than twenty medical and technical journals. Dr. Zhang received a Ph.D., Mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh, 1989, M.A., Mathematics, University of Pittsburgh, 1986, M.S.E.E., Electrical Engineering, University of Pittsburgh, 1984, B.S., Computer Science, Fudan University, 1982. Dr. Zhangs’ numerous awards and honors include: National Cancer Institute SBIR Grant, 1999, 2000; Purdue Research Foundation Summer Faculty Grant, 1993; IPFW Summer Research Grant, 1992; Andrew Mellon Fellowship, 1986-1987; Andrew Mellon Fellowship, 1985-1986; First Place, Fudan University Mathematics Competition, 1979.
