Hong-Shig Shim graduated from Brown University with a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry in winter of 1998. Before joining REI, Dr. Shim was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Brown University and a Postdoctoral Fellow at Philip Morris Corporation. At REI, he has been working on multiple combustion simulation projects including industry boiler CFD simulation, CFS (Configured Fireside Simulator) development, and model implementation/development. He also has a broad background in material characterization with various experimental instruments such as HRTEM, SEM/TEM, XRD, and TGA. Additionally, he has competent knowledge in image processing using software packages, such as Semper and Scion Image, and has developed image processing algorithm for nanostructure of carbonaceous material including coal char, graphite, and soot.
