Harry's healthcare executive career spans more than 30 years in both for-profit and not-for-profit individual and multi-hospital settings coast to coast. He has actively participated as a key executive team member in multiple financial turnaround challenges in hospitals and related entities.
Professional Experience
Harry's successful business career began very early in life. To pay for attending a private high school in the Southwest (SW) where he graduated at the top of his class he worked in a manufacturing company with national sales that had great difficulty in timely filling orders due to slow choppy production processes. He transformed every manufacturing process allowing production and sales to triple turning regular monthly/annual losses to profits and allowing the factory to pay off its working capital loans. He trained many career workers while there as a student.
Harry was unaware that his high school manufacturing turnaround effort was even noticed or remembered externally until he received a call three years later less than one week after graduating from college requesting that he go and visit a very troubled rural county hospital in the SW which actually commenced his healthcare career in 1977 where he served in several staff director and executive roles concurrently.
Harry's career continued to advance when he moved to California working as a Chief Financial Officer in individual for-profit hospitals and then promoted to various large corporate regional and divisional Chief Financial Officer positions. He also assisted in the "going public" process of one for-profit healthcare system and was key to the successful entry of a for-profit healthcare system being the winning bidder to manage six newly built hospitals overseas. Harry was also actively involved in interactions with senior management teams who were contemplating selling their hospital and the financial analysis and purchase of many hospitals across the country.
Harry then served as a VP and Chief Financial Officer for more than 10 years in a freestanding not-for-profit Medical Center. He was then asked to utilize his earlier multi-hospital experience to serve as a system Executive VP and Chief Financial Officer for a leading healthcare system on the East Coast. While on the East Coast Harry was one of four healthcare executives representing an entire state interacting with various government payor labor and business interests on the re-invention of healthcare business processes for that state.
Harry returned to the West Coast after many urgent requests to serve as a VP and Regional Chief Financial Officer for a large group of very financially troubled hospitals two of which were recently acquired public hospitals.
Harry has been actively serving as a hospital executive in interim/turnaround management roles serving large hospitals with "earnings surprises" also helping deeply distressed hospitals in the successful emergence from bankruptcy and assisting a public teaching hospital restore its financial health. He has been involved in turnaround assessments and business plan deployment. He has been very active in medical staff development plans revenue cycle and managed care contracting optimization. Additionally he has created tools to actively highlight key areas of expense that need to be trended and improved.
Harry also has many years of direct experience in treasury functions including cash management new or existing debt management and rating agency interactions.
