Harry Thacker has been with The News Tribune since 1984, and currently serves as Administrative Director. Prior to his work at The News Tribune, he served for 20 years in the United States Army as a Chief Warrant Officer. Thacker began his military career in Huntington West, Va. He attended Marshall University and taught ROTC.
During his tenure at Marshall he met and married his wife, Marty. They have two grown children, Greg and Tonja. During his 20 years of service he served at various assignments throughout the world, in Europe, Vietnam and Korea. He was awarded numerous awards including the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal and upon his retirement he was awarded The Legion of Merit.
Thacker's volunteer and community activities include being on the Executive Board of United Way of Pierce County, Chairman Emeritus for the Executive Board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tacoma and Pierce County, and board member for The News Tribune Foundation Scholarship Committee. He also has served on various Tacoma Public Utilities committees and the Emergency Planning Committee for Pierce County. |
