Mr. Herington is Chief Executive Officer of NIC. Mr. Herington joined NIC in 1995 when the World Wide Web was first becoming a focus of the private sector. He worked closely with NIC founder Jeff Fraser to migrate NIC's first state government partner, the state of Kansas, and other states from dial-up systems to the new medium of the Internet.
In 2000, Mr. Herington was named Executive Vice President of Portal Operations with oversight over NIC-managed state and local operations. Mr. Herington was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in September 2002, a role that gave him day-to-day responsibility over all of NIC's business lines. Mr. Herington was appointed President of NIC in May 2006, and was also appointed to the NIC Board of Directors in October 2006. In February 2008, he was named Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Herington holds a B.A. from Wichita State University and a J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law. Prior to joining NIC, Mr. Herington was the Associate General Counsel for the League of Kansas Municipalities. |
