Harrie Samaras has over twenty years of experience in intellectual property law and related areas.
Ms. Samaras served as Director of IP Litigation for a Fortune 500® telecommunications corporation where she built and managed a legal department that handled pre-litigation and litigation IP matters for the company worldwide. She also served as Vice President of Intellectual Property for an internationally-based drug delivery company responsible for the protection, enforcement and licensing of its IP.
In private practice, Ms. Samaras has represented clients in all stages of IP litigation including appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent Office. Her practice includes counseling clients about using alternate dispute resolution processes to resolve business disputes, representing clients using ADR, and serving as a neutral. She also represents clients in IP litigation and appellate matters, as well as counsels clients about the protection and enforcement of their IP. She regularly presents and writes about IP issues and the use of alternate dispute resolution in resolving business disputes.
Before entering private practice, she served as a Deputy Senior Technical Assistant and as a law clerk to Chief Judge Helen W. Nies at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Ms. Samaras began her IP career serving as a Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in the biomedical arts.
Ms. Samaras holds a Masters of Law degree in Patent and Trade Regulation Law from The George Washington University National Law Center and a Juris Doctor degree from The University of Baltimore School of Law. She also holds Masters and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Maryland in the life sciences.
Ms. Samaras is also a shareholder at RatnerPrestia, where she heads the firm’s Litigation/Dispute Resolution Department.
