Harold "Hal" D. Kahn has enjoyed a diverse and illustrious career in the retail business over the last 35 years. He has served in various roles at Macys and Federated Department stores, since he began his retail career in 1970. Most recently he was Chairman and CEO of Macys East, a 5 billion dollar division of Federated Department Stores. Prior to that he was CEO of Abraham and Straus, President of Montgomery Ward, CEO of Macys South and Macys West.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mr.Kahn. began his retailing career in the Abraham & Straus training program in 1970. Rising from trainee to Womens Shoe Buyer, Mr. Kahn joined Macys in 1975 as Vice President of Womens Shoes and Accessories and in 1979 became Senior Vice President of Merchandising. In May of 1981, Mr Kahn was appointed President of the Atlanta Division of the Macy Corporation, and in 1981 became CEO of Macys West as stated previously. During this tenure, Mr. Kahn led many division consolidations and turn around situations.
Mr. Kahn left Federated Department Stores in March 2004 to pursue other opportunities. Since then he heads HDK Associates, a consulting company to financial and investment groups. Mr. Kahn serves on various professional, educational and charitable advisory boards- in addition to teaching Retail in the Graduate School of a local university.
Mr. Kahn received a B.B.A. degree from City College of New York and an M.B.A. from the University of Maryland.
