Haloti Ngata was picked with the 12th overall selection in the 1st round of the 2006 NFL Draft...Baltimore traded its 13th overall pick and a 6th-round selection (181st overall) to the Cleveland Browns for the 12th overall pick... Ngata was the 2nd player in franchise history to be tabbed out of Oregon - WR Patrick Johnson, 2nd round (42nd overall) in 1998...Ngata's teammate, WR Demetrius Williams, was taken by the Ravens in the 4th round in 2006.

Highlights:

Wide-bodied defensive playmaker who combines superior lower body strength with good hand placement...Entered the draft following an award-filled junior season...Consensus All- American 1st-team selection as a junior, and the 1st at Oregon since DB Mel Renfro in 1962...Compiled 151 tackles (83 solo), 24.5 TFL, 10 sacks (-64 yards), 7 PD, 3 FFs and 1 FR in 36 career games (29 starts) at Oregon...Also holds the school record with 7 blocked kicks (3 FGAs, 3 PATs and 1 punt)...Was a finalist for the Outland Trophy (best collegiate interior lineman) and the Bronko Nagurski award (best college defensive player) as a junior.

"Ngata was a player that Eric (DeCosta) gave me exposure to last fall and I kind of got an affection for him at that point," said GM Ozzie Newsome. "It was interesting when we interviewed him at the combine. He came across as a guy that was very well-spoken and mature. He's a big man that can move. I like Eric's description calling him a ?block of granite." Our ability to stop the run has improved immensely by getting a player of his stature. He's still growing, and we think he has a big-time upside."

College Career:

2005: Consensus All-American honors from the Associated Press, NFL Draft Report, Football Writers Association of America, Walter Camp Football Foundation, Sports Illustrated and ESPN.com as a redshirt junior...Was also a unanimous All-Pac 10 Conference 1st-team selection and was a finalist for the Outland Trophy (nation's best interior lineman) and the Bronko Nagurski award (best college defensive player)...Named the Pac 10 co-Defensive Player of the Year and was the recipient of the Morris Trophy (Pac 10's top defensive lineman)...Posted 61 tackles (32 solo), 3 sacks (-20 yards) and 9 TFL...Also had 5 PD, 2 blocked kicks (1 FGA and 1 punt), 1 FF and 1 FR.

2004: Although he didn't regain full strength from an '03 knee injury until midway through the season, finished the year with a flurry to earn 2nd-team All-Pac 10 conference honors as a redshirt sophomore...Saw action in 11 games, starting 9 and finished as the team's 5th-leading tackler, posting 46 tackles (31 solo), 3.5 sacks (-13 yards) and 8.5 TFL...Also credited with 3.5 sacks (-24 yards), 2 FFs and 2 blocked kicks (1 PAT and 1 FGA)...Best game came against Arizona, when he posted a career-high 8 tackles, including 3 TFL.

2003: Suffered a season-ending knee injury in the opening quarter of the season opener at Mississippi State.

2002: Freshman All-American 1st-team selection, as well as earning All-Pac 10 honorable mention honors...Named the recipient of the Len Casanova Award as the team's top newcomer...Saw action in 12 games after missing the season opener, and moved into the starting lineup in the season's 5th game...Finished the season 2nd on the DL in tackles with 44 stops (20 solo) with 3.5 sacks (-31 yards) and 7 TFL...Ngata also had 2 PD and blocked 3 kicks (2 PATs and 1 FGA)...Finished the year with a season-high 7 tackles against Oregon State.

Personal:

Attended Highland (St. Lake City, UT) HS, starting his last 3 years...Rated as the top defensive player in the nation by Super Prep and PrepStar, as well as the best interior lineman in the country by Student Sports...Named the 2001 Utah Gatorade Player of the Year, as he recorded over 100 tackles and 30 sacks as a senior...Led his team to the state quarterfinals as a senior, following a 12-2 record and a berth in the State Championship as a junior...Named his team's captain and earned his team's Defensive Lineman of the Year award in 2001 as an offensive guard...Name is pronounced: ha-LOW-tee Na-ta...Full Name: Etuini Haloti Ngata.
