Guy Gorney is senior vice president of Generation for Edison Mission Group (EMG) and president of EMG’s Chicago-based subsidiary, Midwest Generation EME, LLC. Gorney joined Midwest Generation in 1999 as regional vice president of Operations and Planning during the acquisition of assets in Illinois from Commonwealth Edison (ComEd). He was promoted in 2000 to vice president, Operations, Maintenance and Fuels, and then to vice president, Coal Generation in 2002. He was promoted to his current position in 2006.
Gorney is responsible for the operation of all of EMG’s thermal and renewable power generation facilities across the United States. In his role as president of Midwest Generation his organization operates seven, major, coal-fired power plants in Illinois and Pennsylvania with approximately 1,500 employees. When opportunities to sell power have been identified, he works with the Power Marketing function in Edison Mission Energy’s Marketing and Trading office. Currently, much of the units’ capacity is sold in the merchant market place in a 13-state market extending from Illinois to the Atlantic seaboard. Gorney is also responsible for procurement of 22+ million tons of coal, fuel transportation, rail car management, and fuel quality.
Throughout his career, he has focused primarily on operations, plant performance and fuel purchasing within fossil fuel stations. Prior to joining Midwest Generation, he worked in the Fossil Generation Group of Commonwealth Edison, which is headquartered in Chicago.
Gorney, who holds a B.S. in Energy Engineering from the University of Illinois, has 28 years of experience in the energy industry. |
