Mr. Zaic has been a venture capitalist primarily investing in the medical/biotech areas since 1983 and has served on numerous boards of directors, for both private and public companies, typically as lead investor and occasionally as acting CEO. Notable successful investments include Infusion Systems (disposable IV administration devices), Focus Healthcare (HMO/workmen s compensation), PerSeptive Biosystems (bioseparations hardware and software, ultimately sold to Perkin-Elmer in 1998 for $360 million), and GenVec (NASDAQ: GENV, gene-based therapeutics for cardiology, ophthalmology, and oncology). Mr. Zaic is currently a general partner of Nexus Medical Partners, a Boston-based venture capital firm focused on medical devices and life science investments. Prior to joining Nexus, Mr. Zaic was a general partner of Prince Ventures, an independent, medically focused, venture capital partnership managing six funds exceeding $100 million. . Before Prince, Mr. Zaic was a Vice President with The Vista Group, a venture capital firm where he focused on health care and medical products investment opportunities. Mr. Zaic s extensive experience in the medical area derives from his operating positions at Baxter Travenol Laboratories, Inc. where he managed the Special Products Division. He played important roles in the introduction of two major new products for Baxter: Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis ( CAPD ) and the hollow fiber dialyzer. Mr. Zaic received a B.S. degree (magna cum laude, phi beta kappa) in aerospace and mechanical engineering from Princeton University, an M.S. in mechanical engineering and an M.S. in management, both from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. |
