Gregory R. Jones is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Los Angeles office. Greg is a member of the Trial Department, where he focuses his practice on commercial litigation, intellectual property law, entertainment litigation and securities litigation.
Greg has experience litigating a range of intellectual property cases. He has defended a motion picture studio, writer/director and production company in a copyright infringement lawsuit involving a major motion picture. Greg has also represented a studio in a trademark and copyright infringement lawsuit against a company that was manufacturing clothing featuring images and slogans from a major motion picture. Most recently, Greg has prosecuted several copyright infringement lawsuits on behalf of motion picture studios against Internet websites that provide links to streaming copies of motion pictures and television shows over the Internet.
Greg has additional experience defending companies in a range of securities litigation matters. Most recently, he has defended a publicly-traded company against multiple shareholder derivative actions involving allegations of illegal stock options backdating. Greg has also represented a publicly-traded company in an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) into allegations of stock options backdating. In addition, he has represented a broker-dealer in defense of an SEC enforcement action involving allegations of illegal market-timing and late-trading.
While in law school, Greg served on The Georgetown Law Journal where he was the editor-in-chief of the 32nd Annual Review of Criminal Procedure. Greg also served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Paul L. Friedman, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and as a student attorney for the Criminal Justice Clinic.
Greg is admitted to practice in California and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
