As managing principal and president, Greg Vilkin is responsible for MacFarlane Partners’ investment management programs on behalf of its institutional capital partners, which total $4.25 billion in client equity and $20 billion in real estate assets.Greg has 28 years of real estate investment, development and management experience, during which he has developed more than 10,000 multifamily residential units, seven million square feet of commercial space, and 10,000 acres of master-planned communities. A nationally recognized authority on affordable housing, he has worked extensively in developing affordable housing and revitalizing urban neighborhoods through public/private partnerships.Prior to joining MacFarlane Partners, Greg served as president of Forest City Enterprises’ residential real estate businesses that operated in the western United States Forest City Residential West and Forest City Stapleton. The two businesses developed and owned a wide range of residential properties, including market-rate, affordable, student and military housing; high-density urban apartments and condominiums; and commercial/residential mixed-use properties. Under his leadership, Forest City Stapleton undertook the nation’s largest urban redevelopment project, working in a public/private partnership to transform the former Stapleton International Airport in Denver into a master-planned community consisting of more than 12,000 homes and 10 million square feet of commercial and retail space. In honor of his work on Stapleton, Greg was recognized as Commercial Real Estate Executive of the Year by the Denver Business Journal in 2000. For his efforts at promoting smart-growth development, he received the California League of Conservation Voters’ Environmental Leadership Award in May 2006. That same month, the Los Angeles Business Journal named him Best Mixed-use Developer.Greg currently serves on the boards of directors of the Center for Creative Land Recycling and American Sunrise, a non-profit, affordable-housing provider. He also sits on the Multifamily Leadership Board of the National Association of Home Builders and has served on the National Task Force on Affordable Housing. A member of the Urban Land Institute, the Congress for the New Urbanism and the Young Presidents Organization, he is a frequent speaker at events hosted by ULI, CNU, NAHB and other real estate industry groups.
