Dr. Gregory O. Nelson is Executive Vice President of Eastman Chemical Company and head of the company's Polymers Business Group. He is a member of the Eastman Chemical Executive Team.
Dr. Nelson grew up in Wilmington NC. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1973 and a PhD in organic chemistry in 1977 both from the University of North Carolina. In 1978 he served as an Alexander Von Humboldt Fellow at the University of Regensburg West Germany and in 1979 he held a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral position at the University of California Berkeley. He completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2000.
From 1979 to 1982 he served as an assistant professor of chemistry at the University of Arizona Tucson and joined Eastman in 1982 as a research chemist.
From 1982 until 1992 Dr. Nelson held a number of posts in the Research and Development organization and in 1992 he was named Manager Technology Core Competence. In 1993 he was appointed technology manager for Eastman’s Polymer Modifiers business and in 1994 he became director of the Physical and Analytical Chemistry Research Division.
Dr. Nelson was named director of the Polymers Research Division in 1995. He was appointed vice president of Polymers Technology in 1997. In June 2004 he assumed responsibility for developing businesses and in April 2006 he was appointed to his present position.
He is a member of the American Chemical Society the Industrial Research Institute and the Council for Chemical Research. He serves as vice chairperson of the Eastman Credit Union Board of Directors. |
