Dr Harris was the foundation Chief of Division for CSIRO Land and Water and until recently was the initiator and Chairman of the CSIRO Flagship Programs. Dr Harris left CSIRO to establish his own company ESE Systems Pty. Ltd. specializing in strategic planning and consulting in large scale science programs and water and landscape management. He is Chairman of the Australian Antarctic Division Research Advisory Committee and a member of the Commonwealth Department of Environment and Heritage Threatened Species Committee. He was awarded the CSIRO Chairman’s gold medal in 1996 and an Australian Centenary Medal in April 2003 for services to environmental science and technology.
Dr Harris has published more than 140 papers in total (75 in refereed journals) and also 3 books and monographs. In his work with the Australian Landscape Trust he was closely involved in the practical application of ecological knowledge working with and through rural communities to achieve sustainable land management practices. |
