Graham Ansell is a Technology Specialist within the firm's Business Department. Prior to joining Foley Hoag LLP, Graham worked for Abbott Laboratories, where he focused on the discovery of novel compounds with activity against a number of important therapeutic targets. While at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, he worked on the discovery of novel drug candidates for the treatment of Hepatitis C virus, and focused on the synthesis of novel small molecule entities at Oxford Asymmetry.
Graham served as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow with Prof. L. A. Paquette at The Ohio State University. This fellowship focused on the synthesis of advanced intermediates toward the tricyclic core of Vinigrol by employing asymmetric methodologies, ring forming reactions and anionic oxy-cope rearrangements. He received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with Prof. P. J. Parsons at The University of Sussex, England, focusing his studies on the synthesis of the 19-membered macrocyclic lactam of Herbimycin A using asymmetric synthesis and furan ring opening methodologies. While working to receive his M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry with Prof. A. G. M. Barrett at Imperial College (London), England, Graham investigated asymmetric conjugate addition reactions to unsaturated orthoesters and acetals using chiral boron and aluminum ligands. Graham's undergraduate research was conducted with Prof. M. Shepherd at The University of North London, England and concentrated on the synthesis and stereochemical elucidation of phenyl cyclobutenes.
