Professor Göran Samsioe earned his medical degree in 1971. He became Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1976 and Chief Consultant of Gynecological Endocrinology, in 1978, at the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at the Sahlgrenska University hospital, Gothenburg. Following an appointment as consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO), he was named Full Professor of Gynecological Endocrinology at the University of Lund, Lund, Sweden, in 1993. Professor Samsioe's main research interest is the metabolic effects of gonadal hormones and he has published extensively in this area. He is a founding member of the International Menopause Society (IMS) and served as Secretary General to the IMS (1990 –1996). In 1997, he became president of the European Menopause and Andropause Society (EMAS). Professor Samsioe serves on the editorial board of several journals, including Menopause and Menopause Digest, and he is one of three editors-in-chief of Maturitas. |
