Gerard A. Messina has represented clients in a large variety of patent matters since he joined Kenyon & Kenyon in 1990. He is the co-chair of the Patent Prosecution/Opinion Practice Group.
The primary focus of Mr. Messina's practice has been prosecuting patents and counseling clients on patent strategy. Mr. Messina has successfully managed the patent portfolios of numerous domestic and foreign companies, providing high-quality drafting and prosecuting of domestic, international and foreign national patent applications. He has tutored clients on setting up and streamlining their internal patent processes. He has also counseled companies of all sizes on the validity and infringement of patents, including performing patent portfolio reviews and providing opinions to protect their products and services.
Mr. Messina has extensive experience in a wide range of electrical, mechanical and computer technologies, including electronic control systems, computer hardware and software, semiconductors, sensors, optics, telecommunications and financial systems.
Mr. Messina authors articles and is a co-author of the Manual of Industrial Property. He is a regular speaker on patent matters, both in the United States and abroad, most recently on business method and computer software patents as well as on developments in United States patent practice.
