Gerald Turman Biography :

Gerald "Jerry" Turman serves as president of Koontz McCombs Construction, Ltd. Mr. Turman is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a BBA in Accounting. He has been in the construction business for over twenty-five years, the past twenty years with SpawGlass Contractors. Prior to joining SpawGlass in 1979, Mr. Turman worked for Henry Vogt Machine Company, a steam generation designer, manufacturer and construction company based in Louisville, Kentucky. Mr. Turman started work as a field survey engineer and worked his way up to project superintendent, constructing steam generation plants at several locations throughout the U.S. with one plant in Suriname, South America. Mr. Turman joined SpawGlass Contractors as an assistant project manager in 1979. Within six months, he was promoted to Estimator/Project Manager. His duties included estimating hard-bid projects from conception and managing the projects through completion. Mr. Turman continued at this position until 1986, when he took over as Operations Manager of the Dallas Division of SpawGlass. There, his duties included overseeing the budgeting, managing and production of approximately $50,000,000 a year.

Mr. Turman supervised six project managers and fifteen field superintendents with related staff. Within two years Mr. Turman was named Division Manager for this operation overseeing 28 salaried employees and 52 hourly employees. As Division Manager he was responsible for all aspects of construction from marketing, estimating through production. During his years in Dallas, Texas, Mr. Turman was instrumental in developing and implementing many of the processes, policies and procedures still being utilized by SpawGlass today. Mr. Turman was also on the committee charged with evaluating estimating, cost control, administration, production control and scheduling software programs. In 1990, SpawGlass decided to close all of its outlying divisions and consolidate all operations into its two strongest markets, Houston and San Antonio. In 1991, after overseeing the closing of the Dallas operation, Mr. Turman transferred to San Antonio to join Fred Raley to assist in the rebuilding of that division. Traditionally a hard-bid contractor, Fred wanted to take SpawGlass into the highly sought-after negotiated market. Mr. Turman took on this initiative, and as Operation Manager for Negotiated Work, helped direct and build SpawGlass' negotiated annual volume to over $40,000,000 a year.
