Gerry was employed as a construction engineer in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, prior to founding Rauenhorst Construction Company in 1953. Gerry received his first construction contract from Zion Lutheran Church in his hometown of Olivia, Minnesota, in 1953. In 1982, the company name was changed from Rauenhorst Corporation to Opus Corporation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Gerry is a Registered Professional Engineer in 10 states and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas where he earned a B.A. degree in Economics. He also holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Marquette University.
PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS
Gerry has served on the boards of numerous companies including Federal Reserve Bank, ConAgra, Inc., Cornerstone Properties, Inc. Dairy Queen, Data 100, Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Norwest Bancorporation and Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea. He is also very active in community and civic organizations having served as Director of the Catholic Community Foundation, Trustee of the University of St. Thomas and Marquette University and Treasurer and Trustee and Development Committee Member of the Papal Foundation. Gerry is also the founder of Progress Valley, resident secondary treatment centers in Minneapolis and Phoenix, which assist recovering chemically dependent men and women.
AWARDS
In addition to receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, Gerry was named Twin City Business Monthly Entrepreneur of the Year in 1997. He was Corporate Report Minnesota's Executive of the Year in 1983 and inducted into the Minnesota Business Hall of Fame in 1980. |
