Gerald M. Offutt, P.C. is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Chicago office. As a senior partner in the Real Estate Practice Group, his varied practice entails providing a full range of services and counsel to corporations, partnerships, joint ventures, developers, lending institutions, professional organizations and individuals in connection with the acquisition, construction, disposition, leasing, financing, and utilization of commercial and industrial real estate.
In recent years, Gerald has represented clients in the construction and renovation of corporate, manufacturing, commercial, and office facilities and the development of sports facilities as well as large and small residential properties. He also has an extensive background in counseling financial institutions, including acting as counsel to consortiums of lenders in multi state real estate financing activities. He also has extensive experience assisting not-for-profit corporations and other organizations in obtaining exemptions from real estate taxes.
Gerald is a member of the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association.
In addition, Gerald has lectured to professional and trade associations in the area of real estate lending and construction loan documentation. He has principally authored a chapter titled Construction Loans: Financing the Developer, appearing in Financing Real Estate Transactions, published by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
