George Thornton is president and chief executive officer, a position he has held since July, 2001. Prior to joining Agriliance, he held various sales, financial, marketing and management positions with American Cyanamid, ICI Americas and ICI Australia, Griffin, LLC and AgWeb.com.
In leading Agriliance, Thornton has focused on creating strategic alliances, and defining future business models to position the company for long-term growth. He firmly believes in workplace safety, as evidenced by his introduction of a company-wide safety awareness and education program.
Thornton serves on the board of directors of the Ag Retailers Association, and the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives. He's a member of the CropLife Pace Advisory Council, and a governing member of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. In March 2006, he was named Agribusiness Leader of the Year by the National AgriMarketing Association.
He was raised in Georgia, and holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia and a master's of business administration degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. |
