George Stromeyer joined Scientific-Atlanta (S-A) in 1996 as Vice-President & Managing Director, Latin America. In 2002 George spent 1 year at S-A’s corporate headquarters in Atlanta, before moving to the European headquarters in Belgium, to play an integral role in directing the company’s EMEA division. He has been successful in focused efforts to convey Scientific-Atlanta’s rich broadcast heritage, which has resulted in S-A securing broadcast technology sales with a number of key European customers. George has recently been formally acknowledged for his leadership and contribution to the cable industry by being selected as one of the Euro 50 Leaders in Broadband and Pay TV.
Throughout his career, George has successfully grown sales revenues by commercialising technology products and building strong commercial organizations. During his 6 years at the helm of S-A Latin America, he increased regional sales by 150 percent. Scientific-Atlanta’s 2004 annual report shows a continuing trend, whereby in the last year, George’s direction has seen marked growth in European sales.
George’s success can be attributed to his ability to build durable relationships with senior directors at large communications operators, as well as close working relationships with S-A’s technical and operational managers. He has a high level of awareness at all levels of the industry, which means that he is able to anticipate the challenges facing both customers and the industry at large in order to provide innovative solutions, which meet their requirements.
Prior to joining Scientific-Atlanta, George was responsible for growing sales for Raychem Corporation’s PolySwitch division, located in Paris, from $12 million to $30million in a four-year period. While at Raychem, he constructed a five-year plan for the European business, with the goal of reaching sales of $70m per annum.
George also worked for a leading Latin American engineering company, where he was responsible for the successful completion of a 40 mile water pipeline, pumping and storage system in Argentina, and as a technical marketeer for the Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
George is a graduate of Cornell University, with a BSC in Mechanical Engineering, making the coveted Dean’s List of highest achieving students. He also completed an MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College, a top 10 graduate business program in New Hampshire, in 1986. As a result of his international work experience around the world, George is an accomplished linguist with fluent English, German and Spanish and a comprehensive grasp of business French.
In his spare time, George enjoys outdoor pursuits, including hiking, rowing and bicycling. He has also completed his PPL (private pilot’s licence) and is an experienced private pilot. |
