GEORGE E. LACKMAN JR brings experience from his distinguished career in banking, business operations, shipbuilding, international business and public service to Odyssey Marine Exploration's Board of Directors.
Lackman, a Tampa, FL native, was founding Chairman and President of Citrus Park Bank, which was sold to Florida National Bank in 1985. As a senior officer of Florida National he served at different times as head of Retail Banking, Business Banking and Commercial Banking for the Tampa area. After the merger of Florida National and First Union National Bank he started the first Private Banking Program in the Tampa area for First Union. He Retired from First Union as Vice President of Corporate Development.
Active in Tampa Port affairs for many years, Lackman spent 25 years in the shipyard business, including service as Vice President of Tampa Ship Repair and Dry Dock Company, Tampa's largest shipyard. He was President of Nutri-Sol Chemical Company, Marine Insulation Company, Corban Industries and Acetogen Gas Company of Florida.
Lackman's international experience spans service as President of an International Investment Group, Chairman of the Tampa Chamber of Commerce International Board and as President/Chairman of the Tampa Bay International Business Council. He also served as an Advisor to the Central American Banks with specific emphasis on Guatemala.
Lackman was especially active in health care issues including infant mortality and prenatal care. He served for 14 years on the Hillsborough County Hospital Authority Board; two terms as Chairman. He is recipient of the President's Circle of Excellence Award for Outstanding Caring Services to Tampa General and Hillsborough County Hospitals and the James McEwen Memorial Award for Significant Contributions To the Betterment of Tampa General Hospital.
He also served as Chairman of the Hillsborough County March of Dimes; The Governor's Conference on Infant Mortality and the Health and Bio-Medical Council of the Greater Tampa Committee of One Hundred. He served on the Advisory Council of Florida Healthy Mothers/ Healthy Babies; the Maternal Child Health Task Force of Hillsborough County and was appointed by Governor Bob Martinez to represent Florida in the Southern Governor's Corporate Coalition to Improve Maternal Child Health (chaired by William Jefferson Clinton).
He was appointed by Governor Lawton Childs to organize and chair the Florida District Six Community Health Purchasing Alliance (CHIPA) and later by Executive Order to serve as Chairman of the State Board of that organization.
Governor Childs also named Lackman to the "Governor's Commission on Community Service and Public/Private Partnerships". He served on the Board and Executive Committee of the Tampa Downtown Partnership, the Executive Service Corp of Tampa Bay and the Tampa Bay History Center.
Director Lackman has been a member of the University Club of Tampa, The Tampa Yacht and Country Club and Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, having served two terms on its Board. He served for 35 years as "Skipper" of the pirate ship "Jose Gaspar" in its annual invasion of Tampa.
Lackman is well-known for his hobby of delivering yachts throughout the Atlantic seaboard, the Caribbean Islands, Mexico and the Lower Pacific Ocean. He is recognized throughout the fishing world as an inventor and holds patents on currently manufactured weedless propellers used on electric fishing motors.
Lackman, attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. |
