Shannon & Wilson opened a Fairbanks office in 1974 and since that time has provided geotechnical and environmental consulting services for over 3,000 projects in all areas of the State of Alaska, plus work in Greenland, Antarctica, and Russia. Services include foundation engineering, soil mechanics, materials testing, geology and hydrogeology, seismic engineering, and environmental assessment and remediation. Our clients represent a variety of federal, state, local municipalities, private companies, and individuals. The Fairbanks geotechnical staff is recognized as leaders in the design and analysis of the performance of foundations on permafrost. Geotechnical projects are supported by our in-house, AASHTO-certified and Corps-validated, materials testing laboratory, which performs all common soil test procedures, asphalt and concrete mix design, and earthwork compaction quality control testing. Our environmental professionals have developed particular expertise in arctic and subarctic conditions in the investigation of underground petroleum spills and the design and operation of site cleanup measures. All of our technical staff have received OSHA 40-hour and annual refresher training for work at potentially hazardous sites |
