Mr. Gayton is a specialist on local and Pacific Northwest regional issues. Mr. Gayton, served on the Seattle King County Forward Thrust Committee. He was the retained arbitrator for the City of Seattle with the State of Washington on the I-90 project appointed by Mayor Wes Uhlman. As a special assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation Brock Adams, Mr. Gayton oversaw the I-90 project and later served 12 years as the I-90 Citizens Committee Chairman appointed by Mayor Royer.Mr. Gayton, a lawyer, served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Kennedy Administration and has been a partner in law firms in the State of Washington and in Washington, D.C. Mr. Gayton served in the Carter Administration as White House liaison for the U.S. Department of Transportation and as the Acting Administrator of the Urban Mass Transportation Administration (UMTA) - now known as the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). Mr. Gayton was the highest ranking former federal official who served on the Clinton-Gore Transportation Transition Team.From 1993 to 2000 Mr. Gayton served as a lobbyist for the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) with responsibility for the Department of Transportation and the White House. Mr. Gayton recently completed a term as Chairman of the nine-member Advisory Board of the 9th Circuit Federal Courts.In 2005, Mr. Gayton was selected the University of Washington Distinguished Political Science Alumnus and delivered the commencement address to the graduates that year.Mr. Gayton earned a B.A. in political science from the University of Washington and a Juris Doctor from Gonzaga Law School.
