President QSP Inc. Gary S. Rich joined The Reader’s Digest Association Inc. in July 1998 as Senior Vice President Human Resources with responsibility for leading the company’s strategic human resource initiatives worldwide. In January 2002 he was named President of QSP. In this role he is responsible for QSP the company’s schools and youth fundraising arm in the U.S. and Canada.Prior to joining Reader’s Digest Rich was Senior Vice President Global Human Resources for ACNielsen since June 1996 responsible for ACNielsen’s human resources initiatives worldwide. Before ACNielsen Rich spent 11 years at American Express Company. His most recent position there was Vice President Human Resources for American Express Europe the Middle East and Africa a $1.5 billion business with 16 000 employees in 26 countries. During this time he was based in London and played a pivotal role in that business’s European turnaround. Previously he was Vice President Human Resources Europe for the Travel Services Group of American Express based in Paris. Rich led the unit’s acquisition-integration efforts across Europe and led human resources process redesigns resulting in worldwide savings of $25 million. He joined American Express in 1986 serving in a number of executive leadership assignments. Rich has a master’s degree from Columbia University in organizational psychology and was named one of Publishing’s Most Influential People by Folio magazine. He is a National Trustee of the Boys and Girls Club of America and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Northern Westchester Hospital Center.
