Gary G. Sackett’s legal career has spanned 30 years and has been focused on corporate and regulatory law, primarily in administrative litigation before state tax and public service commissions, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and related appellate courts. He continues to provide counsel and advice to companies in the areas of general corporate law, corporate and partnership governance and transactions. As a private pilot, he also represents clients in resolving matters related to the aviation industry, including regulation of air-ambulance services. With an extensive background in legal ethics and professionalism, Gary also represents and counsels lawyers and others concerning ethical and malpractice issues.
He has been an adjunct Professor of law at the University of Utah, lecturing on the legal profession and legal ethics and serving on the Ethics Advisory Opinion Committee of the Utah State Bar from 1989 until 2007, chairing from 1992-2003. He has also served on the Utah Supreme Court’s Advisory Committee on the Rules of Professional Conduct since 1993. The Utah State Bar presented its Distinguished Service Award to Gary in 2003.
Gary was formerly the vice president and general counsel of Questar Corporation. In addition to a J.D. degree from the University of Utah College of Law, Gary holds a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the University of Southern California. He is a member of the Utah State Bar, the (Federal) Energy Bar Association and is licensed to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth, Tenth, Eleventh and D.C. Circuits. He also serves as an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), formerly NASD Dispute Resolution. |
