After paying his dues as a seasonal and training camp intern for the Cardinals and spending three years as a head trainer in the NFL Europe League, Freddie Carabajal accomplished a long-time goal when he was hired as a full-time member of the Cardinals training staff in 2003.
Born in Melbourne, Fla., Carabajal graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in athletic training in 1996 and subsequently added a master’s degree in sports administration in 2001.
During and after his undergraduate days, however, he was an annual training camp intern for the Cardinals from 1996-1999, during which time he also served as a graduate assistant to his alma mater’s training staff from 1997-98.
Following his stay in Albuquerque, Carabajal served as head athletic trainer for the New Mexico Scorpions of the Western Professional Hockey League from 1998-99, then held a similar position along with duties as equipment and road manager for the New Mexico Slam of the International Basketball League through their 2000 season.
In 2001, Carabajal was named head trainer for the Rhein Fire of the NFL Europe League, a position he maintained through the 2003 season while also serving as a seasonal intern for the Cardinals once the Fire’s season was completed.
Carabajal, his wife Paula and their child Mia reside in Maricopa, AZ. |
