Fred A. Balkin is the Co-Chair of Stein Sperling’s Personal Injury practice. He concentrates his practice on claims involving auto accidents, industrial accidents, premises liability and when appropriate medical malpractice. Mr. Balkin particularly focuses on successful resolution of cases involving brain damage, serious injury and death claims where both complex issues of medicine and insurance coverage can arise. He emphasizes consistent client contact in which clients are made to feel comfortable in a supportive environment.
Mr. Balkin’s innovative practice uses client video documentaries to help better communicate his clients’ cases to the insurance companies. In fact, his videos have been repeatedly recognized by senior insurance claims examiners, judges and the video industry with one of his settlement videos winning the prestigious Telly award for Best Documentary.
Mr. Balkin is a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association. He has spoken frequently on various insurance industry-related topics and other attorneys regularly consult with him due to his advanced knowledge of tort and insurance law. In addition, Mr. Balkin has been recognized on many occasions for his pro-bono work and each year he helps organize numerous charitable events.
A native of Northern New Jersey, Mr. Balkin received a B.S. degree from the University of Maryland in College Park and his J.D. Degree from Antioch School of Law. Mr. Balkin is also certified as a mediator and expert in alternative dispute resolution.
Outside of the office, Mr. Balkin is an eclectic collector of items from fine arts to art deco porcelain, classic cars and memorabilia.
