Frans was born and raised in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. After graduating from the Marine Engineering College he joined Shell Tankers. He then returned to his studies and rejoined Shell in 1985 as a mechanical engineer based at The Hague, having graduated from the University of Delft with a degree in Mechanical Engineering (Energy Engineering). In 1987, Frans took up an assignment as planning engineer with the KPRL Refinery in Mombassa, Kenya that was to mark the start of a string of maintenance projects and operational jobs at different locations in the world including California, Tabangao in the Philippines and Pernis in the Netherlands. Between 1996 and 2000, Frans was Refinery Superintendent at Sola Refinery in Norway, followed by a four-year period as General Manager at the Refidomsa Refinery, Dominican Republic. After spending two and a half years as the Europe/Africa and Middle East Principal Service Manager in Shell Global Solutions, Frans was appointed to his current position of General Manager of the Yabucoa Chemical Site, in Puerto Rico on 1 June 2007. Frans is fluent in English, Spanish and Norwegian as well as his native Dutch. Frans is married to Lina; they have one son. He enjoys hiking, sailing and biking. |
