Eugene Smith joined Eisner & Lubin right after college graduation in 1968. As the firm’s quality review partner, Gene helps ensure that the firm's accounting and auditing engagements culminating with the financial statements issued to the firm’s clients meet or exceed the requirements of professional standards. His industry expertise includes manufacturing, distribution, service companies, finance, not-for-profit, retail, and real estate. He also specializes in pension and profit-sharing plans. Gene welcomes the recent concerted effort to enhance auditor performance. Reforms created by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act including the creation of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and the resultant array of accounting, auditing and quality control standards issued by the SEC, FASB and AICPA have strengthened the public's confidence in the financial reporting system, he explains. Gene is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, where he serves on the Service on Audit Sampling and Analytical Techniques Committee. Gene received his B.S. in accounting from Brooklyn College and continues his professional education in auditing, accounting and taxation. Gene lives in Staten Island with his wife and Casey, their wheaten terrier. They enjoy spending a few weeks each summer exploring the Maine seacoast. |
