J. Erik Fyrwald is group vice president of DuPont Agriculture & Nutrition, one of five DuPont growth platforms. This group includes Pioneer Hi-Bred International, DuPont Crop Protection, and Nutrition and Health businesses. Under Fyrwald's direction the over $6 billion platform has focused on helping customers increase the quantity, quality and safety of the global food supply.
Prior to this assignment, Mr. Fyrwald was vice president and general manager of the Nutrition and Health businesses, which included The Solae Company, DuPont Qualicon, Liqui-Box and DuPont Food Industry Solutions. In that role, he strengthened the DuPont position as a global leader in the production and marketing of soy protein products through strategic joint ventures, including creation of The Solae Company joint venture with Bunge, and 8th Continent® joint venture with General Mills. Mr. Fyrwald oversaw the launch of 8th Continent® soymilk, which reached No. 2 in the United States within its first year on the market.
Mr. Fyrwald joined DuPont in 1981 as a production engineer, and then production supervisor for the Nylon business. Since then, he has held a variety of sales and management positions in a number of areas. In 1990, he became the leader of the DuPont Engineering Polymers and DuPont Butacite® business for Asia Pacific, a position he held until 1994.
He was then named leader of the DuPont Nylon Plastics business for the Americas until 1996, when he became head of global sales and marketing for Engineering Polymers. In 1998, he was appointed vice president of Corporate Plans and Business Development and then vice president of e-Commerce. He was named to his current position in June 2003.
Mr. Fyrwald was born July 29, 1959. He earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware in 1981 and attended the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program in 1998.
Mr. Fyrwald serves on the following boards: Biotechnology Industy Organization (BIO); CropLife International President's Advisory Group; Des Moines Art Center; Greater Des Moines Partnership (Public and Private Collaboration); Farm Foundation; 8th Continent L.L.C.; The Solae Company; and Eli Lilly and Company. |
