Mr. Berkowitz recently joined RatnerPrestia as an intellectual property attorney with over 15 years of broad based experience in electrical engineering and strategic planning. Prior to joining RatnerPrestia, Mr. Berkowitz was with a law firm in Washington D.C. specializing in intellectual property law. His primary responsibilities included preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a variety of arts including, flat panel displays, optical devices, electronics, semiconductor devices, software, electromechanical devices, communications systems, control systems, power systems and consumer goods. His practice ranged from individual inventors to multi-national corporations including many foreign corporations. Mr. Berkowitz has held positions in a large electric utility as an engineer and in management as a liaison between the Corporate Business Planning and Information Technology departments while working directly for the Chief Information Officer. In this capacity, Mr. Berkowitz participated in technical reviews of all major Information Technology projects and in negotiation of Information Technology outsourcing agreements and had the opportunity to directly participate in the merger of the electric utility with another fortune 500 company. As an engineer, Mr. Berkowitz worked in areas such as communication systems engineering and power system design, and with diverse technologies including wired and wireless communications, photovoltaics, advanced electrical metering and electric distribution system design. Since joining RatnerPrestia, Mr. Berkowitz has managed matters for both small and large clients related to preparing and prosecuting patents, counseling of clients regarding their intellectual property rights and litigation support. Mr. Berkowitz is an active member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the American Bar Association. Mr. Berkowitz is a member of RatnerPrestia's Electric / Computer / Business Method Group. |
