Eric M. Markell is executive vice president and chief financial officer for Washington-based Puget Energy (NYSE: PSD), a Fortune 1000 company, and its utility subsidiary Puget Sound Energy (PSE). Named CFO in May 2007, Markell was previously senior vice president of Energy Resources where he was responsible for identifying PSE's requirements for new energy resources and acquiring the resources for both short- and long-term customer needs
With 20 years of experience in the utility and energy industry, Markell is also responsible for Regulatory Policy. He joined the company in 2002 as vice president, Corporate Development and is a director of the board of Puget Western, Inc., a PSE-affiliated company.
Prior to joining PSE in 2002, Markell was CFO of Club One, Inc. in San Francisco, Calif. He has also served as vice president and CFO of United American Energy Corp., a private independent energy company based in Woodcliff Lake, N.J., specializing in special situation investing and turnaround management of distressed energy companies. Markell is a past treasurer and controller of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation, a New York state investor-owned utility. Prior to joining Central Hudson he was vice president and treasurer of the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority, a public benefit corporation active in utility finance and energy research and development.
In addition to his responsibilities at PSE, Markell is a director, member of the Committee on Finance, and chair of the Committee on Audit, the United Way of King County. He is also a past director of local chapters of the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society and a past director of the Duchess County Arts Council in New York state.
Markell has a bachelor's degree with distinction in Economics from Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., and a master's of Public Administration degree from The Maxwell School, Syracuse University.
He is married and has four children. |
