Ellen Bebe Duke is Co-Head of Risk Management in Citi Markets & Banking (CMB). This department has approximately 2,100 people in more than 70 countries and is responsible for independent risk oversight of the CMB’s product- and client-driven activity across all of the major risk disciplines Credit, Market, and Operational Risk. The Risk Management functions also approve and monitor activity related to Trading Risk and Reputation/Franchise Risk. CMB Risk globally manages credit exposure of approximately $900 billion, approves and tracks over 10,000 market risk limits across more than 170 trading desks, and leads more than 1,000 deal review forums annually. She is a member of Citi’s Management Committee.
Bebe traded mortgage-backed securities for 13 years at Citibank, Lehman Brothers, and Smith Barney before joining the then-newly formed Independent Risk Management organization at Travelers in January 1995. She became Head of the Market Risk Management department at Smith Barney, head of Market Risk at the Solomon Smith Barney, and subsequently Global Head of Market Risk Management for Citi Markets & Banking in 2000. In December 2003, her independent risk management role was widened to include Cross-Border Risk Management for all of Citi; Risk Management of Underwriting, Distribution, Conflicts, and Structured Products; and Operational Risk Management.
Bebe was a member of one of the first co-ed classes at Princeton University; she graduated with honors with a concentration in American History.
