Current Position
Ed Muller was appointed Mirant’s chairman, president and chief executive officer in 2005. Mirant is a competitive energy company that produces and sells electricity in the United States, the Caribbean, and the Philippines. Mirant owns or leases approximately 17,300 megawatts of electric generating capacity globally. The company operates an integrated asset management and energy marketing organization from its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
Career before Mirant
1993 - 2000: President and Chief Executive Officer, Edison Mission Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Edison International. Directed worldwide activities of this independent power producer. Increased earnings from $2.3 million in 1993 to $198 million in 1999. Led four acquisitions totaling $9.5 billion between mid-1998 and mid-1999. Led major activities in Australia, Indonesia, Italy, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.
1999 - 2000: Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, Contact Energy Ltd., a New Zealand electric generation company partially owned by Edison Mission Energy
1991 - 1993: Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, BioWhittaker, Inc.
1983 - 1993: Served as Chief Financial Officer, Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel and Secretary, and Vice President of Whittaker Corporation. Responsible for the negotiation of numerous acquisitions and divestitures, and the structure and implementation of leveraged recapitalization. Responsible for structuring a tax-free spinoff of Whittaker’s biotechnology company. Played a leading role in restructuring Whittaker from a $1.4 billion conglomerate to a $150 million aerospace company and a $50 million biotechnology company. Supervised hundreds of litigated cases.
