Edward P. Djerejian (Director since 2001) Director of the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University since 1994. Ambassador Djerejian served as U.S. Ambassador to Israel from 1993 to 1994. He served as Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs from 1991 to 1993. Ambassador Djerejian also served as U.S. Ambassador to the Syrian Arab Republic from 1988 to 1991 as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Near Eastern and South Asian affairs from 1986 to 1988 and as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Press Secretary for Foreign Affairs from 1985 to 1986. He is a director of Global Industries Ltd. and Occidental Petroleum.
