Ed McKenna handles all aspects of labor and employment law, including litigation and advising employers how to avoid litigation. He has represented private/public employers in a variety of employment-related lawsuits -- including Title VII, FMLA, FLSA, wage and hour, age, disability, government contracting, wrongful discharge, noncompete, whistleblowing, and defamation -- before agencies and in state and federal courts. He has been involved in numerous employment class and collective action cases, including significant decisions involving the denial of class certification. He represented Florida Governor Jeb Bush in AFSCME, AFL-CIO v. John Ellis "Jeb" Bush, 860 So. 2d 992 (Fla. App. 1st DCA).
He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Courts of Ohio and Florida; the United States Supreme Court; the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth, Sixth, Tenth, and Eleventh Circuits; the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit; the Southern District of Ohio; and the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Florida. He is a member of the American, Federal, Florida, Georgia and Hillsborough County Bar Associations.
Ed is Board Certified as a Specialist in the area of labor and employment law by the Florida Supreme Court and frequently lectures to attorneys, human resource professionals, supervisors, and senior management on various labor and employment topics. As a Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator, Ed mediates in all areas of labor and employment law. Ed is a Wage & Hour Chapter Editor for the Florida Bar's Small Business Manual and Chapter Editor for the "Restoration to the Same or Equivalent Position" chapter of the American Bar Association's treatise on the Family and Medical Leave Act. Ed is AV® Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, described as the definitive referral guide to the legal profession, and was also recognized by Florida Trend magazine as one of "Florida's Legal Elite" (2004-2007) (the top 1.8% of the Florida Bar members who practice in the state).
