Current responsibility
Drew is a principal and consulting actuary with the New York office of Milliman. He joined the firm in 1982.
Experience
Drew's area of specialization since 1972 has been health insurance. He has worked extensively with life insurance companies, Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans, HMOs, and large employer groups, designing and pricing health and dental benefit plans, evaluating claim liabilities, and performing financial projections. He has testified as the expert actuarial witness at Blue Cross/Blue Shield public rate hearings in many states.
Drew has worked with several active benefit trusts and retiree benefit trusts in reviewing rate renewals, monitoring the performance of the trusts, performing detailed actuarial projections, and making recommendations to the trustees with regard to benefit levels, contribution rates, alternative benefit designs, etc.
Drew served on Milliman's Health Steering Committee from 1986 to 1993 and from 1996 to 2000. He also served on Milliman's Board of Directors from 1993 to 1996. While on the Board, Drew chaired Milliman's Budget Committee, and subsequent to that, he chaired Milliman's Employee Benefits Committee. Drew has chaired two of Milliman's national Healthcare Symposiums one in 2002 and the other in 2004. These symposiums are run for all Milliman health clients.
Presentations and publications
A consulting actuary since 1979, Drew has spoken frequently at both Society of Actuaries and national Blue Cross/Blue Shield meetings. Drew currently serves as an instructor at the Society of Actuaries Fellowship Admissions Course and at the Milliman sponsored Actuarial/Underwriting training seminars for Milliman clients. He has also served as an instructor at employee benefits seminars sponsored by the American Management Association. |
