Douglas L. Christiansen consults for Noel-Levitz from his position as associate provost for enrollment and dean of admissions at Vanderbilt University (TN). He has conducted more than 60 consulting engagements, working directly with presidents, trustees, enrollment professionals, and faculty on enrollment management, admissions policy, and revenue generation funding models.
In his role as associate provost, Dr. Christiansen serves as the university’s chief enrollment strategist, overseeing the offices of Undergraduate Admissions, Undergraduate Merit Scholarships, Student Financial Aid, the University Registrar, Vanderbilt Institutional Research Group (VIRG) and Honor Scholars. In addition, he oversees the Ingram, Chancellors, Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship programs and the ENGAGE scholars program. He also serves as assistant professor of public policy and higher education in the Department of Leadership, Policy and Organizations at Vanderbilt's Peabody College.
Before coming to Vanderbilt in the summer of 2006, Dr. Christiansen served as assistant vice president for enrollment management and dean of admissions at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. Under his leadership, applications for admission to Purdue increased by 48 percent, resulting in improved academic quality, ethnic diversity, and international presence. He also was on the faculty of Purdue's College of Education. Prior to joining Purdue in 1995, Dr. Christiansen was associate director of Student Recruitment and High School Services at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
Associations, presentations, and education:
Dr. Christiansen is a member of the National Association for College Admissions Counselors and the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, and has given numerous presentations at these national meetings. He also is a member of The College Board and the National Task Force on Admissions in the 21st Century. As an active member of these organizations, Dr. Christiansen has been appointed to several sub-committees and task forces on topics ranging from access to higher education to ethical admissions and financial aid practices. A frequent speaker and conference panelist, Dr. Christiansen has also presented nationally at the North American Enrollment Management Institute and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and internationally at the Higher Education SAP summit. Dr. Christiansen earned his Ph.D. in higher education administration at the University of Utah. |
