Dr. Weiland brings to Athena a blend of entrepreneur and physician. He was co-founder of OMNA Medical Partners, a start-up that raised $17 million in venture capital, which opened 4 ambulatory surgery centers and ultimately involved 21 mergers ($1-5 Million corporations). Prior to that, he founded, as CEO and Chief Operating Surgeon, the Florida Spine Institute, an ambulatory surgery and diagnostic center with revenues of $18 million, employing 25 physicians and 148 other employees. Dr. Weiland is responsible for several other successful ventures including JES Properties, Inc. (a land and office/commercial development company), Apollo Pharmaceutical, Inc. (dermatology/pharmacology company) and Albiorex, LLC (esthetic materials/pharmaceuticals development company). Dr. Weiland is the founder and principal investor in these ventures and serves as CEO with day-to-day operational involvement. Dr. Weiland’s education includes a BS UC Berkeley; MD Stanford Medical School; General Surgery Residency University of Minnesota; Surgical Oncology Fellow - National Institute of Health; University of Virginia Orthopaedic Residency; Maryland Spine Fellowship Johns Hopkins Hospital. He has numerous publications, inventions and grants to his credit. |
