Doug Jones, as Senior Vice President, is responsible for coal, gas and hydro generation for Georgia Power, which serves more than 2 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers in the state of Georgia. Georgia Power is the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, with over 17,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity. Doug is also a Senior Production Officer of Southern Company Generation, which manages the generation of electricity for the company’s retail markets and competitive wholesale business. Doug has 27 years of experience with Southern Company and its affiliates. He began his career in 1980 with Georgia Power and held various positions in Retail Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Wholesale Marketing, Fuel Services and Generation Planning. In 1996, Jones joined Southern Company Energy Marketing, which was created to compete in the deregulated wholesale power supply business on behalf of Southern Company’s subsidiaries. He became Vice President in 1998 and was named Senior Vice President in 2001. From December 2001 until January 2005, Doug served a dual role as Executive Vice President for Southern Company Generation and Energy Marketing and as Senior Vice President of Southern Power. Before assuming his current position in 2006, Doug served as Senior Vice President of Customer Service and Sales for Georgia Power. A native of Hopewell, Virginia, Jones holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance from Kennesaw State University. In 2001, he completed the Templeton College Advanced Management Program at Oxford University. Active in professional and community affairs, Jones serves as an advisory board member of the Michael J. Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University. He serves as a board member for the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Atlanta, Inc. He also serves on the executive committee of the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
