Doug Houda enters his first season in the Bruins organization, as he was named to complete Dave Lewis' staff on July 25, 2006. He came to the Bruins following three seasons as an assistant coach with the Rochester Americans, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres. The Amerks had a 125-86-16-13 record over his three seasons as an assistant coach, including a 51-19-4-6 record in 2004-05, the top record in the AHL that season and a franchise-record of 112 points. The Alberta native was drafted by Detroit in the second round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft and enjoyed a 15-year career on defense in the National Hockey League. He had 19-63=82 totals and 1,104 PIM in 561 career NHL games with Buffalo, Detroit, Hartford, NY Islanders, Los Angeles and Anaheim. He also played over 500 games at the AHL level over his 17-year professional playing career. He joined the Amerks' coaching staff upon his retirement as a player in 2003, spending his final playing season as the Rochester captain.
