Experience
Donald primarily focuses on matters related to construction law, green building and environmental sustainability. He has broad experience representing public and private clients on an array of construction and business issues, including litigation, drafting contract documents, and regulatory compliance. Donald co-founded the firm's Green Business Practice Group and led the firm's internal sustainability efforts, including becoming a certified green business.
Donald is a national leader in the green building industry and a champion of environmental sustainability. He is dedicated to market-based business opportunities promoting environmental sustainability. Donald is President of Build It Green and co-founded the U.S. Green Building Council, Northern California Chapter, for which he serves as general counsel and advocacy chairperson. Donald is also a director of Generation Earth, which in 2005 teamed with the City of San Francisco to organize and host the United Nations' the largest international conference of mayors to address urban environmental sustainability issues. He regularly advises clients on public policy and strategy relating to green building and broader issues of environmental sustainability.
Active in environmental issues for many years, Donald previously served as president of the Ohio State University Environmental Law Association. He worked for the group Environmental Defense to develop an international framework for air pollution offsets along the Texas-Mexico border. Donald has represented and worked with various organizations, including Sierra Club, Bay Area Coalition for Headwaters, the California Heritage Tree Initiative and Buckeye Forest Council, on issues related to old-growth forest protection and logging concerns.
