Having experience on both sides of the gaming industry, puts Domenic Alfieri in an enviable position where he knows all the requirements needed to be in compliance. He started working for the government of Ontario, Canada in 1966 and held various positions as supervisor, administrator, task leader and director of various programs, such as family benefits, welfare administration, and operational support. He also organized and decentralized various Ministry services.
In 1982, Mr. Alfieri continued to hold key positions in various offices of the government. He became Executive Director of Corporate Implementation in the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services, Executive Coordinator of Management Policy of the Ontario Management Board Secretariat and as Assistant Deputy Minister of Public Safety in the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General where he was instrumental in the implementation of various initiatives such as the Child and Family Services Act, the Young Offenders Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy legislation. He also became Assistant Deputy Minister in 1988 for the Public Safety of the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General.
Mr. Alfieri's career in the gaming industry started in 1992 when he became Assistant Deputy Minister for Ontario Casino Project of the Ontario Ministry of Consumer & Commercial Relations. He was responsible for the development of all research, policies, programs and legislation which led to the establishment of the Ontario Casino Corporation and the Ontario commercial casino industry. He was also responsible for the issuance of various Requests for Proposal, selection of operator for Windsor's interim casino and the development and opening of the casino.
Appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer upon the establishment of the Ontario Casino Corporation in 1994, Mr. Alfieri was responsible for the development and operations of the new commercial casino industry in Ontario. He conducted market research on location, size, scope and amenities and the selection of the best casino operator for each casino. These casinos were Casino Windsor, Casino Rama and Casino Niagara where he teamed up with the Navegante Group.
His interest in the gaming industry led Mr. Alfieri to leave the government aspect of his career and establish his own consulting firm, Domenic Alfieri Consulting Inc in 1997, which provides consulting services to gaming companies and other hospitality and entertainment related businesses. Through his firm, he became President and CEO of Trillium Gaming Inc. He is responsible for the program development and casino licensing for 3 commercial casinos in British Columbia.
Mr. Alfieri is also active in a diverse community and charitable work, including Villa Charities for seniors and the developmentally handicapped. In 1991, he received the "Hearts and Hands" award in recognition of his many contributions as a volunteer. He currently serves as Director of the Canadian Foundation on Compulsive Gambling. |
